Each year Vanity Fair releases a fashion fan favorite, their annual International Best Dressed List which almost always causes a stir not only among fashion folks, but also the media in general. In their role as what some critics refer to as ‘the global fashion gestapo’, Vanity Fair selects top celebrities, fashion figures and other famed folks to cover and include. People from all over the world have proven to be eager readers of this famous issue and 2010 is no exception for the magazine since everyone seems to want to know who made the cut and who did not – it is a bit of fun in a sometimes all too serious industry. Among the big names that fashion fans tend to expect there were Charlotte Gainsbourg and David Beckham, but there were also quite a bit of royal European entrants who are not as familiar to many fans across the pond in the United States. Of these there was the Duchess of Alba who, it turns out, is no relation to movie star Jessica Alba.
Ladies included this year include the First Lady of the US, Michelle Obama – even though her husband, the US President, did not make the list. Two other first ladies came from France, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, and the wife of the British Prime Minister, Samantha Cameron. Lady Gaga was one big pop star who topped the list. Men included NBC Nightly News reporter Brian Williams and actor Alec Baldwin, as well as hip hop star Pharrell Williams.
