Christian Siriano Scores A Major Hit With Payless

Ever since ‘Project Runway,’ winner Christian Siriano has been tapped by major companies ranging from Payless Shoes to LG. The young designer has proven that he can adapt to new jobs while maintaining his style aesthetic as well as his integrity. In 2008, Siriano began working with Payless Shoes, a company best known for its wide selection of affordable footwear. At Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week 2011, Christian Siriano and Payless unveiled their latest creation in the form of a collection of severe, hardware infused chunky high heels. Siriano, whose style ranges from Victorian ruffles to draped tapestries has always been a fan of experimentation. At first glance, Siriano’s Payless collection appears to be based more on art than usefulness. In fact, several models ended up tripping up on the catwalk while walking in the shoes, and one even crashed into the stage. Even still, it is worth noting that actress Gabrielle Union was in attendance wearing a pair of the shoes that Siriano recently designed. Also, Payless normally makes slight alterations to the shoes before they are sold to the masses.

Overall, Siriano’s latest collaboration with Payless was deemed a major success. While other designers are focusing on ladylike silhouettes and delicate fabrics, the up and coming designer took a much more bold and ‘in your face’ approach. Normally, Siriano’s Payless shoes sell out before they are able to touch the shelves, so if you are in a buying mood you may need to get in line extra early.
